To study the trends in water quality for locations identified as Hot Spots
Gujarat Engineering Research Laboratory, Narmada Water Resources, Water Supply and Kalpasar Department

Objectives

  1. To assess water quality and pollution in rivers at eight specific 'hot spots' within the Vadodara-Anlkelshwar-Vapi industrial belt. All hot spots are shown to be affected by industrial effluents.
  2. Specifically to look a pollution to surface and groundwater from urban and industrial areas.
  3. To investigate possibilities for remedial measures to improve water quality.

Results and Recommendations

  1. The report contains a lot of valuable water quality data.
  2. Industrial pollution is probably a greater issue that that of human waste, although this cannot be ignored.
  3. Several sites wave heavy metal concentrations above permissible limits. These come from chemical plants, metal industries and dye works.
  4. The PDS recommends that these industries should only be allowed to discharge treated effluent.
