Measuring water level

Groundwater level is the elevation of water surface above an established datum in the observation well, measured by recording the depth to the water surface.

Steel tape - The tape is lowered down the well until it reaches the water surface, detected by a change of weight or by chalking the tape.

Electrical dip tape - The tape is lowered down the well until it reaches the water surface, detected by electrical circuit.

Digital Water Level Recorder (DWLR) pressure transducer - a pressure sensor located at the base of the well which measures water level by the pressure of water above. The logger can be set to record data at the required time interval.
